"Ellie and Child"

"Ellie and Child"
"Ellie and Child" is a portrait of an endangered female Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) and her calf in the Karen Elephant Serenity sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Mae Kham Suk was rescued from a logging camp where she endured pulling heavy timber on a daily basis. Her daughter, Heng-heng, was already born in the sanctuary and was spared the brutal process called "Phajaan" or "crush", and escaped a lifetime of abuse in the logging, riding, or entertainment industries.
This image was taken in 2019 while I was on assignment in Chiang Mai, investigating the legitimacy of these elephant sanctuaries.

About the Collection
“Genesis” is a collection of three (3) fine art photos featuring wildlife from three different ecosystems from habitats across the globe. Its name stems from it being my maiden collection.
